Buying used: seven checks before you pay a deposit

Ask for the full service history and read it, do not just see that it exists.

Check all four tyres for even wear. Uneven wear can point to alignment or suspension problems.

Match the VIN on the car to the licence disc and the papers.

Ask how many keys come with the car.

Take it on a drive that includes a hill, a rough road and some highway.

Ask whether the price needs a warranty or extra to be bought with it.

Get the deposit terms in writing before you pay.
